What exactly does a travel advisor do?

Why do I need a travel advisor?

We are all busy and rely on professionals for many aspects of our lives, so why should your investment in travel be any different? You probably wouldn’t try to cut your own hair or file your own taxes because there is someone who can do it better! Your ROI (return on investment) is much greater, and your time, which is a non-renewable resource, is saved.

In the past I have booked through Amex or direct. What is the benefit of booking through Carey Travel?

We offer clients better perks because of our global partner relationships. Through our affiliation with Departure Lounge and Virtuoso networks, the value we offer our clients surpasses Amex Travel or direct online booking. Additionally, the relationships we maintain with hotel owners and general managers give us the edge of knowing important details about properties or destinations. Because of these relationships, our clients frequently receive added amenities, upgrades, and availability when a hotel is otherwise fully booked. When we travel, we personally conduct several hotel site inspections per day to provide first-hand knowledge to our clients on choosing the right property or destination for them. Amex Travel provides none of that.

What if I can find it cheaper elsewhere?

As your travel advisor (as opposed to an agent), we have a fiduciary responsibility to you and advocate on your behalf with travel suppliers. Many aspects influence the bottom-line pricing, and many OTAs (online travel agencies) are misleading with their published price. We always ensure the best value for our clients.

Does Carey Travel book villas or home rentals?

Our villa and vacation home rental specialists around the globe provide our clients with vetted properties that ensure quality, cleanliness, and service. These agencies work with Carey Travel at no additional cost to our clients. Often, our clients receive bonus credits or amenities. We do not work with VRBO or Airbnb, as these companies are direct to owner and provide no guarantee of the product you are purchasing.

What is the advantage of booking air with Carey Travel?

Many clients opt to book their own air, which is completely up to you. When you book your own airline tickets, I am unable to assist with changes, delays, flight cancellations, etc. While we do charge a booking fee, this covers the customer service involved when things go sideways, as can often happen with air travel. We also have access to unpublished fares.
